TAMARA RIGNEY // Mei Day

Mei Day is a floral design studio serving Oahu and beyond. Our work celebrates Hawaii’s nature, experimenting with new interpretations of tropical floral design. We find beauty in both the roadside weed and carefully cultivated bloom, so we use both, on work ranging from simple arrangements to massive installations. Whenever possible our flowers are sourced locally.

Our name stems from founder Tamara Rigney's childhood obsession with ‘May Day,’ the local holiday celebrating Hawaiian culture and flowers. This floral infatuation persisted as an adult, pulling her away from a career in landscape architecture to start a floral studio in her grandma’s Niu Valley garage in 2009, turning that into the botanical boutique Paiko, then splitting off as Mei Day, to again focus on the art of floral design. In 2016 Tamara co-authored the book 'OHI: How to Gather and Arrange Hawaii's Flora.
